Like many Sherlock Holmes fans I still have a found memory of Jeremy Brett's version of the detective, but I do appreciate Robert Downey's performance: he's bringing a breath of fresh air to the character.

The first official movie trailer of Sherlock Holmes has finally been released:

That's definitely not the traditional portrayal of Sherlock, I have no doubt that this explosive reinvention of Conan Doyle's detective will catch the attention of the new generations. This Sherlock Holmes trailer shows a lot of comic scenes though. I know Director Guy Ritchie wants to reinvent the character and to adapt him to our time... But it still feels odd, even if Robert Downey Jr. seems to really enjoy those funny jokes.

Anyway, impatient to get some preview clips of Sherlock Holmes to discover the film further.

Entertainment Tonight has been able to meet the cast of the new Sherlock Holmes movie. So we may enjoy this interview here below:

Robert Downey Jr. is answering to those who may think that Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes isn't respecting the source material:

"The reinvention [of Sherlock Holmes] is actually a return to the idiosyncrasy that Conan Doyle had in his books that people hadn't really pay much attention to."

I agree that there is indeed a lot of action in the Sherlock Holmes series. Not sure though that Robert Downey's physiognomy is that close to the original Sherlock Holmes as described in the book. But that's a detail we may forgive, and even won't even notice because of Downey's great acting talent.

Sherlock Holmes Movie Ending

Mark Strong, who plays the villain in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie directed by Guy Ritchie, gave away the film ending during an interview with Total Film! Well, I don't think that what he revealed is that much of a spoiler, but be warned, if you start reading what's below:

"There's a fantastic sequence where we duel to the death on a half-built Tower Bridge. It's a perfect way to end the movie, Robert and I hammering seven bells out of each other on top of this swinging bridge with Victorian London as a backdrop. It's going to be amazing.

There's a touch of Dracula about him (Lord Blackwood).

He needed to have an element of showmanship about him by virtue of the fact that he's trying to persuade everyone around him that he's so in league with the Devil that he's able to conquer death. I just wanted to make him an equal adversary of Sherlock Holmes."

The way he describes this final scene reminds of the classic scene with Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes fighting by the waterfalls.

I don't consider what Mark Strong as a spoiler at all: actually it's quite the opposite. It just makes me even more impatient to watch this new Sherlock Holmes movie!

Director Guy Ritchie has decided to tackle a new movie adaptation based on Arthur Conan Doyle's detective Sherlock Holmes. The movie, simply titled Sherlock Holmes,is starring Robert Downey, Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson. Filming started in early October in London, UK. We may expect the movie Sherlock Holmes to be released during the second half of 2009.

The Plot:

If one follows the traditional representation of the two detectives, the roles would have been assigned the other way around: the slim shape of Jude Law is a better match of Sherlock Holmes traditional representation and aging Robert Downey's physiognomy is more similar to Watson's...

But may be Director Guy Ritchie is purposely trying to make us reconsider what we know of Sherlock Holmes and his universe.I heard that Guy Ritchie wants to show that Serlock Holmes' intellect is as much of a curse as it is a blessing. He said that it will be a very contemporary film as far as the tone and texture, because it has been a relatively long time since there's been a film version of Sherlock Holmes that people embraced.

If I can make a bold statement, I bet this Sherlock Holmes movie will indeed reboot the English detective!

One thing I am just thinking about that Robert Downey Jr. and Sherlock Holmes have in common is their drug addiction: Robert Downey Jr. was indeed a drug addict (no idea what kind) and Sherlock Holmes regularly takes opium... But I suppose that Hollywood will not dwell on this dark side of the story... But it could have been interesting...
